Cambodia Franchising Opportunity Today
Moving ahead to the ASEAN integration, Cambodia’s 14-million population country has attracted quite a number of international franchise operators especially those in the Food and Beverage (F&B) sector, including fast-food restaurant KFC from U.S.A, The Pizza Company from Thailand, BBQ Chicken from South Korea, Taiwan-originated bubble tea ChatTime, restaurant chain Secret Recipes from Malaysia, and more. Café Amazon, a coffee shop chain owned by Thai oil and gas giant PTT Plc, is poised for a major expansion in Cambodia after awarding 19 franchise licenses to operate new outlets across the Kingdom. Suthon Choothian, managing director of PTT (Cambodia) Ltd, told reporters yesterday the brand has established 14 outlets since entering the local market in 2013. The new franchise licenses, including five located outside the capital, will bring the total number of Café Amazon shops to 33, with 120 planned for operation by 2021.
Cambodia Franchising Business
The successful stories of these franchise businesses, not yet to mention other wider franchise like in the hotel industry, many start-up thinkers in Cambodia are dreaming of franchising a brand for their own. Unfortunately, franchising a brand isn’t as easy as people feel. Addressing the exotic “franchise appeal”, some leading local brands are planning to offer a franchise in a more affordable way. With six branches in Phnom Penh so far, Park Café, a leading F&B operator in Cambodia is planning to franchise its brand to other investors starting from 2015 to be the first local franchisor of its kind.
Franchises typically are renowned for their international standards of quality and service and come together with strict operation regulations and training from the franchising organization to ensure these standards are maintained.
In many cases, the franchiser will also provide support in areas such as sales, marketing, advertising, and accounting. While the franchise market in Cambodia is still fairly immature compared to neighboring countries, it is rapidly on the rise and continues to expand at an ever-increasing pace. And industry insiders claim it is ripe for further exploitation, especially in the food and hospitality arena.
